Yogasana therapy for Appendicites

Yogasana therapy for Appendicites

The appendix is a small tube located at the end of the caecum, the first part of the large intestine. It is usually eight to ten centimeters long and its shape resembles a worm. The function of the appendix in the human body is to neutralize the irritating unwanted waste material generated in the body.

Symptoms:

  1. Unbearable pain in the right side of the lower abdomen.
  2. Very often accompanied by with severe vomiting.
  3. Irregular bowls with loose motion and constipation.
  4. When it bursts it brings a serious threat to one’s life.
  5. In the extreme case, the appendix may rupture and discharge pus into the abdominal cavity which is fatal to a patient.

Causes:

  1. The main cause for this is faulty food habits and lifestyles.
  2. Consumption of excess protein and having an unbalanced diet for a very long time.
  3. Overwork done by the appendix to remove the accumulated poisonous waste.
  4. Weak digestion, habitual constipation which results in the inflammation of the appendix in the long run.

Natural Cure:

  1. Fasting is a good method to control the pain in the appendix. But, the patient needs to drink sufficient amount of lukewarm water.
  2. Drink green coconut water twice a day.
  3. The patient should drink decocted water of fenugreek once in the morning while his/her stomach is empty and also again in the afternoon instead of tea.
  4. The Patient should also consume raw juice of carrot mixed with beet juice and cucumber.

Jogasanas and Pranayamas:

The patient should get up early in the morning and drink two glasses of lukewarm water mixed with a little bit of lemon juice while their stomach is still empty and then do the following:

  1. Sahaj Basthi Kriya: (a) Amrit yoga pranayama- 3 minutes. (b) Ardhachakrasana- 5 seconds x 3 times.(c)Toe touching- 10 seconds x 3 times. (d) Agnisar Dhouti- 10 x 3 times only. (e) Pabanmuktasana- 4 times.

Some tips:

Regarding Yogamudra I have to add a few more steps to the followers. Please sit on the Padmasana first. Then place your hand behind your back. Hold the right wrist with your left hand. Take a deep breath and gradually but slowly bend forward by releasing your breath and place your forehead to the ground. Now stay in this position for a while (count up to 10 seconds). After that take a deep breath and return to your original sitting posture. Repeat this Kriya for five times. I would like to mention here that those who are suffering from slip disc problem or heart problems should not try this.

Regarding Uddyan Bandha Mudra, please stand on the ground keeping your two legs 12 inches apart. Now bend a little forward. Take a long deep breath and release the chest and stomach air from your belly fully. Make a anta-kumbhak and pull your abdomen towards your spine. Then your belly will be shaped like an empty pond. Stay in this position for 10 seconds and then come back to the normal position. Repeat this Kriya five times. But those who are suffering from any heart disease should not try it; I would like to advise to do this mudra in the early morning when your stomach is still empty.

I feel it is necessary to mention here that if you make a mistake while doing the asanas, your wrong practice will bring side effects lately, on the otherhand if you do wrong in doing the pranayama it will bring harm quickly. Pranayama is a systematic control of breathing. It is practiced well when our nasal cavity remains completely clear.

From the above discussion it is clear that those who want to practice Pranayama properly should try to keep their nasal cavity clean and clear. Now the question arises as to how one can keep one’s nasal cavity clear. The simple process is to do a nasapan which should be done in front of a yoga Guru to avoid complicacy.

How to do the Suryaveda?

Sit on the Padmasana (if unable then do Bajrasana or Sukhasana). Keep your spine straight by using your right hand in doing so. Put your ring finger and little finger on your nostril and press mildly to block the air path, now inhale air through your right nostril, now block your right nostril and release the holded air through your left nostril. Repeat this process for 2 or 3 minutes only. Those who are suffering from High Blood Pressure should not do Suryaveda Pranayama in order to avoid aggravation. I would like to recommend specially that after doing Uddyan Bandha Mudra the patient should do Halasana (15 seconds x 5 times) in order to get immediate relief from any sort of pain.

How to do Halasana?

  1. Do sabasana.
  2. Place both of your hands besides your thighs with your palms touching the ground.
  3. Take in a full breath of air with a jerk and raise your legs on back above the ground, like it is done in the Biparit Karani Mudra.
  4. Then gradually bring down your legs towards your head.
  5. Place your feet crossing your head on the ground.
  6. Stay in normal breathing for some time.
  7. Then return back to your original starting position.

Who should not attempt this?

  1. Persons suffering from cervical problems.
  2. Persons suffering from High Blood Pressure.
  3. Sufferers of heart diseases.

Those who are over aright will find this asana very difficult, but if he can do this asana, then he/she will lose weight without any doubt.

Mudra:

The patient must perform the following mudras on an empty stomach:

  1. Uddyan Bandha Mudra- 5 seconds x 5 times.
  2. Mahabandha Mudra- 3 minutes only.

During the time of pain the patient must try Yogakriya. Then he/she should take bed rest and drink lukewarm water. In order to get immediate relief from pain he/she should drink half a cup of decocted water of fenugreek (i.e. tea made with fenugreek seeds without milk and sugar). After a few months of practice, the patient should try the progressive yogasana with a yogaguru.

  1. Sahaj Biparit Karani Mudra- 5 minutes.
  2. Mathsyasana- 3 minutes only.
  3. Bhujangasana- 2 minutes only to be followed by,
  4. Salabhasana- 2 minutes.
  5. Mayur Asana- 5 seconds x 5 times.
  6. Bhandha Tray- 10 seconds x 3 times.
